Mark Milward
Background:
For Mark, preparing for the unknown and unknowable is an integral part of training as a lifeguard for the City of Huntington Beach. Being ready for whatever the ocean has in store is a requirement for any lifeguard. Huntington, with its popularity and large surf, undoubtedly puts guard to the test. Like many athletes, he racked up hours of training with endurance sports before finding a box. High school waer polo, college rowing, ocean swimming, and sand running provided a familiarity wih long days around the water.
Introduced by a military friend, Mark began supplementing his running with Crossfit in the summer of 2011. It was a quick transition from hours on the running trail to twenty minute metcons. The team camaraderie and variety of workouts were a good change of pace from long solo runs. It wasn't long until he completed his Level 1 training course and started coaching. With expertise in the water, endurance training, and emergency response, he brings a unique facet to Crossfit Huntingon Beach.
