Failure is a part of any process, be it a fitness program, or learning to play the piano. Everybody fails and fails miserably but it is your response to the failure that defines your life. Do you quit and avoid the pain associated with failure or do you continue until you succeed?
Crossfit gives us many opportunities to fail but it also give us just as many to achieve. Do you remember the first time you attempted a double under? How about a kipping pull up? When I began Crossfit I didn't know if I would ever be able to do these things but after months and months of failure I somehow pulled it off.
Same thing with our Paleo Challenge this month. Temporary setbacks do not mean you should scrap the whole plan. Don't beat yourself up. Shake it off and get back to work.
Theres an ancient Chinese proverb "Fall down 7 times get up 8"
Bottom line... you are going to fail...don't quit.
"We shall never have more time. We have, and have always had, all the time there is.No object is served waiting until next week or even tomorrow. Keep going day in and day out. Concentrate on something useful. Having decided to achieve a task, achieve it all costs." Arnold Bennet
Nuff' said.
So I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. There is exactly 1 week until the weigh-in and measurements will be taken for out Paleo Challenge for the month of January. Hopefully you have taken a look at the food list and a least started thinking about a plan to succeed.
Also, with the New Year approaching I know a lot of people are thinking of their Resolutions for the year. What do you want the New Year to bring you? Knowing what you want is 50% of accomplishing your goals. I have attached a PDF that lays out the SMART goal setting system. Take a look and think about what you want to make happen this year.Who knows what could happen? Set a goal, take action and believe.
Happy Holidays!
You know what? He's right.

Theres a lot of debate about what kind of shoes are best for Crossfit. Heres an interesting article from the guy who started Crossfit Endurance, Brian Mackenzie.
Crossfit HB will be having a Paleo Diet Contest starting January 1-January 31! Follow the link to the Robb Wolf Food Matrix for a list of approved foods. The winner is the athlete who loses the most weight in January and the prize is besides overall better health and fitness, a $100.00 gift certificate to Whole Foods. I would recommend going over the food list and start preplanning or at least thinking about your meals next month. Poor planning leads to poor results. A food log will be required from all participants and sign up will be on the whiteboard at the box. Do your best!

I guess they think this is a new idea.
In this month’s issue, Elizabeth Weil introduces us to fast-and-furious, no-holds-barred high-intensity training. The basic idea is to exert a maximum amount of energy in a minimum amount of time. The result? A seriously fit body. To test out the latest exercise craze, we asked Michael Smith of Crossfit Huntington Beach-crossfithb.com, a CrossFit gym—home base for the trend—for ten workouts we could do anywhere.
Five rounds of 400-meter sprints (and we mean sprints)
Ten vertical jumps (as high as you possibly can, land, repeat) followed by ten push-ups: five rounds
Run one mile, lunging 30 steps every 60 seconds.
250 jumping jacks: Race against the clock.
Max out with push-ups: Keep a tight body, chest to the floor, full extension!
Sprint 100 meters, walk 100 meters: ten rounds.
Spend a total of five minutes in a handstand.
Run with high knees (hit your knees to your flat palms, held waist-high) for fifteen seconds then drop into a push-up. Jump up and run again with high knees for another fifteen seconds. Perform five repetitions, rest, and then do three more rounds.
Five squats, five push-ups, five sit-ups: 20 rounds
Ten push-ups, ten sit-ups, ten squats: ten rounds
